Was always under the impression that a dove was either fixed or manual tilt, like that on many 25 foot goosenecks, raise the deck, flip the stand and it's flat, lift the deck, fold the stand down and set the deck down and it's "doved". The tail adds another 7.75 to 12 inches (20 to 30.5 cm) to. (27 kilograms) and are 23 to 39 inches (60 to 100 centimeters) long. I would think that a dove tail is fixed while the beaver goes up and down like when it slaps water? But again its not a defined term so I wouldn't assume anything when referencing one or the other. If I had to choose I would say more often I hear the dovetails are fixed with ramps and beavertail are hydraulic. There may be a difference historically but it doesn't seem to be known among anyone as the terms are used interchangeably for any type of tail fixed or hydraulic. TIA What is the difference between a dovetail and a beavertail. I was talking to my neighbor the other day about stepdeck semi trailers and we got to talking about beavertail/dovetails. Beavertail - the back permanently angles down and may also have ramps that can fold down to the ground. the trailer is flat all the way to the rear end when the ramp/dovetail is raised. I would not place money on this answer but, as I understand it: Dovetail - the ramp can be raised to becomes part of the deck when raised. What is the difference between a dovetail and beavertail?
